MORE THAN TREATING SYMPTOMS

As the name implies, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) includes the presence of obsessions, compulsions, or both. Obsessions are recurrent and persistent thoughts, urges, or images that are experienced as intrusive and unwanted, causing distress. Compulsions are repetitive time-consuming behaviors performed in response to the obsession aimed at preventing or reducing the distress of the obsession. OCD symptoms often surround contamination, symmetry/arranging, unacceptable/taboo thoughts, hoarding, and doubt/harm. This leads to a "cycle of OCD" which begins with distress caused by an obsession and ends with performing a compulsion that leads to temporary relief. This cycle reinforces itself and can be difficult to stop without proper treatment.
Common Symptoms
Symptoms of OCD tend to develop in adolescence but can develop at any time in life. Symptoms of OCD can stem from genetics, changes in your body's natural chemistry, learned behavior, and stressful life events or significant life changes. As with most mental health challenges, there can be biological, psychological, social, and spiritual contributors to OCD.
What We Know
The treatments we offer for OCD are transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), medication management, and therapy. Nutritional supplementation and our nutrition and mindfulness group coaching experiences may also be helpful. Exposure-response prevention (ERP) is the gold standard treatment for OCD, which we utilize across our services. Other treatments include other brain-stimulation therapies, and intensive outpatient/residential treatment programs.
